About Datsun
Datsun, a brand owned by Nissan, is a renowned Japanese automobile manufacturer. The brand's production run started in 1931 and until 1986, only vehicles exported by Nissan were identified as Datsun. The Datsun brand was phased out by Nissan in March 1986, but was relaunched in June 2013 as a low-cost vehicle brand for emerging markets. However, due to struggles in the market, Nissan considered phasing out the Datsun brand for a second time in 2019 and 2020, and eventually discontinued the brand in April 2022.
The Origin of Datsun
In 1931, DAT Motorcar Co. named its new small car "Datson", indicating the car's smaller size compared to DAT's larger vehicle already in production. When Nissan took control of DAT in 1934, the name "Datson" was changed to "Datsun". The change was due to the word "son" meaning "loss" in Japanese and to honour the sun depicted in the national flag. Thus, the name Datsun was born, which translates to Dattosan in Japanese.

Datsun is internationally recognized for its models such as the 510, Fairlady roadsters, and the Z and ZX coupés.
