The History of Rover Cars
The Rover Company Limited, a British car manufacturing company, was renowned for its quality and performance. Based in Solihull in Warwickshire, the company's reputation was so esteemed that its first postwar model was declared by Road & Track in 1952 to be second only to a Rolls-Royce. Rover's most successful and profitable product was the Land Rover series, which began in 1948 and led to the creation of the Range Rover in 1970. Eventually, Land Rover became a separate company and brand.
Rover's Ownership Changes
In 1967, Rover was sold to Leyland Motors, which had previously acquired Standard-Triumph. Initially, Rover maintained some autonomy within the Leyland conglomerate. However, by 1978, Leyland, now known as British Leyland (BL), had encountered severe financial difficulties and was nationalized by the British Government. Most of Rover's assets were moved into a new BL subsidiary, Land Rover Ltd. The Rover marque continued to be used on other BL products, which largely relied on Honda engineering. Despite these challenges, Rover became the most prolific brand within BL and in 1986, it gave its name to the entire conglomerate, forming the Rover Group.
Rover Today
Today, the Rover marque is a dormant property of Jaguar Land Rover, which is owned by Tata Motors. Jaguar Land Rover, the de facto successor of the Rover Company, still operates out of Rover's original Solihull plant. The Rover Group, which included MG, Mini, and Land Rover, was broken up by BMW in 2000.

Rover has produced a variety of model cars throughout its history. Some of the notable models include the Rover 200, Rover 25, and the Rover 45. These models, along with others, have contributed to Rover's reputation for quality and performance.
