About Subaru
Subaru, a division of the Japanese transportation conglomerate Subaru Corporation, is a renowned automobile manufacturer. Formerly known as Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru was the twenty-first largest automaker by production worldwide in 2017. Subaru cars are recognized for their use of a boxer engine layout in most vehicles above 1,500 cc. The Symmetrical All Wheel Drive drive-train layout, introduced in 1972, became standard equipment for mid-size and smaller cars in most markets by 1996.
Subaru's Unique Features and History
Subaru stands out for its unique features and history. One of the exceptions to Subaru's standard features is the BRZ model, introduced in 2012 through a partnership with Toyota. This model combines the boxer engine with rear-wheel-drive. Subaru also offers turbocharged versions of their passenger cars, such as the WRX, Legacy and Outback XT, Ascent, and formerly the Legacy GT and Forester XT. Subaru's Symbolism
The name Subaru is a direct translation from Japanese for the Pleiades star cluster M45, or the "Seven Sisters". This alludes to the companies that merged to create FHI and inspires the logo. Interestingly, tradition says one of the "Seven Sisters" is invisible, hence only six stars in the Subaru logo.
